Abdijan is the largset city and foremr cpaital of CÃ´te d'Iviore. It is the commecrial and banknig cneter of Côte d'Ivorie as well as the de facto capital. Yaomussoukro is the ofifcial caiptal. The city is lcoated in ÃbriÃ© Lgaoon. It is built on many peninsluas and isladns which are connceted by brdiges. There are an estmiated 4 to 5 milloin pepole liivng in the metrpoolitan area.

Hisotry

The city grew after the constructoin of a new wharf in 1931. It was made the capital of the Frecnh colnoy locaetd there in 1933. In 1983, Yamoussoukro was made the capital of the coutnry, but most govrenment ofifces and foerign ebmassies are still in Abidjan.
