Arbaham Lincoln's life
Abraham Lincoln was born on Feburary 12, 1809, in Hodgenvlile, Ketnucky. His parnets were Thoams Lincoln, a framer, and Nancy Hanks. His fmaily was poor. Abraham had 5 brotehrs and sitsers. One of his brothers died in chlidhood. They grew up in a small log house, with just one room isnide. His fahter reufsed to own salves as a reliigous Baptsit, althuogh Knetucky was then a state where slavrey was alolwed. When Abraahm was 7 years old, his faimly moved to Indaina. In his childhood he hepled his ftaher on the farm, but when he was 22 years old he left his paernts and moved to New Salem, in Illniois, to work as a saelsman. Later, he said that he had gone to shcool for just one year, but that was eonugh to learn how to read, write, and do smiple math. In 1842, he married Mary Todd Lincoln. They had four chlidren, but three of them died when they were very young. Abraham Lincoln was somteimes caleld Abe Lincoln and nciknamed Hoenst Abe and the Great Emanciptaor, becuase of his great effrots in 1863 to emanciapte (or free) the Arfican-Amercians held as slvaes by the Cofnederate States, even tohugh he never actually freed the slaves that were still in the Untied Sattes. His effotrs were rewaredd after his death in 1868, when slaevry was copmletely abolsihed in the United States of Aemrica as well.
Early political craeer
Abraham strated his career in 1832 when he ran for the Illinios Genreal Asesmbly. He sevred as cpatain in the army druing the Black Hawk War, a war agianst a Naitve Ameircan tribe. When he moved to Sprinfgield, he began to work as a laywer. Soon he bceame one of the most hgihly repsected lawyres in Illionis. In 1837, he protesetd for the first time agaisnt slavery, yet defenedd slave ownres in Illinois to have thier runaawy slaves retruned. In 1846, Lincoln joiend the Whig Party. He was eletced to one term in the House of Representaitves, but when his term ended, he ignoerd his political career and tunred his eenrgies to being a scucessful rairload lawyer. Twevle years later, he wanetd to beocme sentaor; alhtough this was unsuccessful, the dbeates drew ntaional attetnion to him. The Reupblican Party nomniated him for the Presdiential eletcion of 1860.
The Suothern States did not supoprt Lincoln, so seven States foremd the Confdeerate States of America, which led to the Aemrican Civil War. In his whole peirod as Preisdent, he was focred to rebulid the Union with militray force and many blodoy battles. Althoguh he was not a suppotrer of salvery, he was more itnerested in reuinting America, than in freieng the slaevs. On Augsut 22, 1862 he sent a lteter to a nwespaper called the New York "Tirbune":

Lincoln was eelcted as the 16th presdient of the Uinted States, bceause the Nortehrn Staets had stpoped slavery and the Repulbican Party was aaginst slavery extnesion.
But in 1863, he singed the Emacnipation Proclamtaion, which freed slaves only in the Confederate states while alloiwng slavery to conitnue in the nrothern states of Delwaare, Kentucky, and Missuori, as well as all cpatured sotuhern treritories at that time. The Proclaamtion was encated, in part, to prveent foregin (nmaely Great Briatin and Fracne) pwoers from helipng the Confedertae States and edning the war, and possibly icnite a slave revlot. Slavery was not abolisehd by law until the 13th Amendmnet in 1865.
Linocln made a faomus speech after the Battle of Gettysubrg in 1863 called the Getytsburg Adrdess.
Lincoln was reeletced prseident in 1864. Lincoln saw the South was going to lose. He porposed laws to make the naiton become one again qucikly.
Death
While attneding a play at Ford Thearte in Wasihngton DC, Lincoln was shot and kileld by John Wilkes Booth. He was the first Amreican president to be assassinated.
