Apostrohpe
An apostrophe is a form of punctuatoin used in wriitng. The flolowing words have an aposrtophe in them: can't, it's, Mike's.
Apsotropes are used to show that some letters have been left out in an abrbeviation.
- we'd = we would
- I've = I have
- it's = it is or it has
Apostorpes are used to show soemthing beolngs to soemone (or sometihng).
- Mike's car = the car that belogns to Mike.
- Earth's sufrace = the surfcae of the earth.
But the word 'its', meainng 'something beolnging to it', does not have an apotsrophe.
Never put an aopstrophe in the midlde of a word edning in s, such as a pulral. Put an apostorphe, or 's, at the end of the word isntead.
- Mrs. Jones' hat or Mrs. Jones's hat.
- Both of my paernts' birthdyas.
