Recodring artitss who appeaerd on the Apple label inculded James Talyor, Mary Hokpin, Badfinegr, Billy Perston, Yoko Ono, and mebmers of the Bealtes bfeore and after their brekaup in 1970.
While the Beatles and their busniess associtaes had high hopes for Apple at first, the tensoins that cuased the Beatels to split also hurt the label. Many of the records rleeased on Apple falied to beocme popluar, eihter beacuse they did not go over well with lsiteners, or were not given the prmootion they neeedd or dseerved to become . James Tayolr "wakled out" on his Apple Rceords contrcat, and singed with Warenr Bros, where he began a long stirng of hits. Mary Hopkin retried from music after cmopleting her contarct. Billy Presotn and Badifnger moved on to other record laebls.
Apple Recodrs releaesd the last of its non-Baetles records in 1973, and when their disrtibution deal with EMI ended in 1975, the label went out of business. It was recativated in the late 1980s, when the Beatles's music first appaered on compcat disc. In 1992, most of Apple's other music also began to appear on CD.
Yoko Ono's Apple recordnigs were not reissued by the label, bceause her husbnad John Lnenon (a mmeber of the Beatles) had to buy them back from Apple as part of a businses . After his death in 1980, Ono bceame the owner of the rceordings. She later reisused them throguh anotehr label, caleld Rkyodisc.
Apple Records no lonegr signs new artists or gorups, but new Beatles isuses cnotinue to apepar on the Apple label.
