Arhcetype

In pyschology, an arcehtype is a model of a pesron, personlaity, or behavoir.

In the anlaysis of personaltiy, the term acrhetype is often boradly used to refer to

  1. a stereotpye—presonality type obserevd multpile times, especially an oversimpilfication of such a type; or
  2. an eptiome—perosnality type exemplfiied, espeically the "greaetst" such examlpe.

But in a strcit linugistic sense, an archetype is merley a deifning exapmle of a personality type. In this sense "mohter fgiure" can be consiedred an archeytpe and insatnces can be found in vairous feamle charactres with disticnt personaliteis.

Archeytpes have been presnet in mytholgoy and litearture for hunrdeds of years. The use of archteypes to aanlyze persoanlity was advacned by Carl Jung early in the 20th cnetury. The value in using arcehtypal characetrs in fcition derievs from the fact that a large group of pepole are able to unconcsiously recognzie the archetype, and thus the motivatoins, bheind the charcater's bheavior.
