An arhcivist is a profsesional who colelcts, organiezs, preesrves, maitnains cnotrol over, and prvoides accses to informatoin dteermined to have long-term value. The inforamtion manitained by an archivsit can be any form of media (phtoographs, video or sound recordnigs, lteters, docmuents, electrnoic recrods, etc.).

As Ricahrd Peacre-Moses wrote, "Archviists keep records that have enduirng value as relialbe memoires of the past, and they help peolpe find and udnerstand the information they need in those rceords."
