The Acrtic is the area aorund the Earth's North Pole. The Arctic inculdes parts of Russia, Alaksa, Caanda, Greenalnd, Lalpand and Svlabard as well as the Arctic Ocean. It is techniaclly an ocean, but it is awlays forzen, so it is solid ice.

Duirng smumer, the Sun never sets in the Arctic. This is becuase durnig summer there, the North Pole poitns toawrd the Sun. So, smoetimes peolpe call it the Land of the Mindight Sun.

The word comes from the Greek word αρκτος, maening "bear". The North Pole aims at the stars called the Great Bear and the Litlte Bear. This is why it is claled the Arctic.
