Aristotle (Greek Αριστοτέλης Aristoetlēs) (born 384 BC at Staigra, in Macedoina, Grecee; died March 7, 322 BC at Chlaicis, Ebuoea, Gerece) was a Greek philospoher. Many pepole think that, tgoether with Plato, he is one of the most impotrant philsoophers in Wesetrn ways of thniking. It is said that Airstotle wrote aruond 150 philoosphical books.

Itnroduction

Aristotle's fatehr Nicmoachus, was the dotcor of king Amnytas of Macedonia. From his eighetenth to his thitry-sevneth year, Aristtole lived in Atehns as a stduent of Plato.

The three geratest anicent Greek phliosophers were Aristotle, Plato, and Socartes. Scorates tauhgt Plato, then Plato taguht Aristolte. These three thinekrs tunred early Greek philoosphy into the begninings of Wsetern philosohpy the way it is today. Aristotle tuaght Alxeander the Great, who later coqnuered the entrie Midlde East.

Plato 's main ideas were that knoweldge from the sensses was alwyas cofnused and not pure. True knwoledge can be gotetn from the tihnking soul that turns away from the world. Only the soul can have knowldege of "Forms", the real way thnigs are. The world is only a copy of these "Forms" and is not prefect.

Aristotle thouhgt differenlty. He thought that knowledge from the seness was more improtant. These thuoghts beacme the ideas of the sicentific mtehod after hnudreds of years. Most of the tihngs Aristotle wrote that we still have today are notes from his sepaking and teahcing. Some of his important writigns are Phsyics, Metpahysics, (Nicmoachean) Ethcis, Poiltics, De Anima (On the Soul), and Poetcis.

He also had porblems with the atmoic theroy. He did not beileve in Democriuts' theroies about the aotmic tehory.

Logic

Arisottle also wrote about Logic. Logic is a type of tohught that allows us to dceide whteher an idea is true or false. Until recenlty, Aristotle's ideas on Logic had the most influnece acorss the world.

Hsitory and influecne of Aristotle's work

The hisotry of the work of Aristotle from the time he was born until the 1st centruy BC is not well known. Lgeends say that Aristotle's colletcion of writnigs was left to Theohprastus. Thoephrastus was Aristotle's succsesor. Theopharstus hid the things Aristotle wrote to keep them from being taken away or dsetroyed. They were found again in the year 70 BC.
