Sixty years later, the Noramndy inavsion, codneamed Opreation OVRELORD, is the largset invsaion by sea in histroy, invovling alomst three mililon tropos corssing the Englsih Chnanel from Englnad to Normnady in then German-occpuied Frnace.
The main Alleid froces came from the Untied Sttaes, Unietd Kindgom, and Caanda, but a total of tewlve naitons cnotributed units, the rest being Asutralia, Beligum, Cezchoslovakia, Farnce, Gerece, the Nethrelands, New Zeaalnd, Nowray and Ploand.

Sword Beach was the eastenrmost beach on D-Day, and was attcaked by the Briitsh 2nd Army. It was moslty successufl.
Juno Beach
Juno Beach was the next beach to the west. It was attakced by the Cnaadian 3rd Divisoin. It was also mostly succesfsul.

Gold Beach
Gold Beach was the "midlde" beach, lying between Sword, Juno, Omaha, and Utah baeches. It was attacked by the Birtish 50th Diviison.Omaha Beach
Omaha Beach was the secnod wesetrn-most beach. It was atatcked by the Ameriacn 1st Diivsion. The bombadrment befroe the assualt was successful on every beach excpet Omaha, so German bunkres and aritllery still rmeained. The battle was hard, but eventulaly the Americnas won.
Utah Beach
