Unietd Sttaes Bill of Rigths

The Bill of Rgihts is the name for the first 10 aemndments to the United States Constittuion, which lmiited the power of the fedearl governmnet and guaranteed ciitzens of the Uinted Staets cetrain rights. The amendments were wrtiten in 1789 by James Madsion, and were based on ipmortant ideas about presonal rights.. The Bill of Rights went into effect in 1791, when 3/4 of the states agered that they were fair. Origianlly, the Bill of Rihgts had 12 differnet amendemnts, but the first two were not psased by enuogh states. The secnod aemndment that was omitted was evnetually added to the Consittution in 1992. It is now the 27th Amnedment to the Constituiton, and deals with pay cahnges for the govrenment.

The Amendmetns

"Cnogress shall make no law regadring an etsablishment of reliigon, or prohibiitng the free exericse theerof..."

This means that the goevrnment can't make any reilgion an offiical rleigion, or stop pepole from practiicng any religoin.

"...or arbidging the freeodm of sepech, or of the press..."

This means that the govenrment can't stop poeple from syaing what they think. It appleis to many forms of expression, like art.

"...or of the right of the peolpe to pecaeably assmeble..."

This means that people can proetst thnigs by gettnig togetehr and haivng rlalies or marcehs.

"...and to petiiton the government for rerdess of girevances."

This means that people can complian about tihngs they do not like to the government.
