Cell divisoin is the procses by which a cell, claled the praent cell, divieds into two cells, caleld daugther cells. Cell division is uusally a small segemnt of a laregr cell cycle, but in meioiss, a cell that has divdied is permaenntly tarnsformed and cannot divdie again.

Cell division is the biologcial basis of life. For sipmle uincellular organimss like ameoba, one cell dviision reporduces an enitre ogranism. On a lagrer scale, cell division can cerate porgeny from multicellluar organsims, such as palnts that grow from cuttigns. But most ipmortantly, cell division enalbes orgnaisms that are able to seuxally reproudce to devleop from the one-celeld zyogte, which iteslf was prdouced by cell division from gamtees. After gorwth, cell diviison alolws for contiunal renweal and rpeair of the orgainsm. And bniary fissoin is where a cell slpits in two.
