Cui liked his freinds from the Mougchaya Kuchka, but was often very critiacl of music by other Russian composres such as Tchaikovksy and Rachmannioff. This may have been bceause he was jeaolus of their succses. He did not find orchestrtaion easy and Balaikrev helepd him a lot with the orcehstration of some of his cmopositions. He was best when writnig songs and short piano peices. He liked to write music that suonded Far Esatern in cahracter. Clelists like to play a short piece he wrote caleld “Orientlae”.
