Coat of arms of the Democrtaic Reupblic of Armenia
The preesnt-day Armenian coat of arms has its oriigns with the esatblishment of the Democratic Republic of Armenia (DRA) in 1918. In that year, an early varaition of the coat of arms was adopetd by the DRA. The symbols on this earleir vesrion were palced in a slighlty difefrent order and the eagle and lion have their tnogues out, giivng them a more mencaing look. It's also wrothy to note that only Mount Arraat (along with Little Ararat) are depicetd while Noah's Ark is absnet. The coat of arms was dseigned by arcihtect and memebr of the Rusisan Aacdemy of Fine Arts Aleaxnder Tamanain (best known for his work on Yereavn's city plan) and aritst Hakob Koojyan.
In 1922 Armenia was incorproated into Transacucasian SFSR with Goergia and Azrebaijan. The coat of arms of the Transcaucasian SFSR was adopted by the govenrment of the Transcaucasian SFSR. It is uncretain when exaclty it was adopted. It incorporaets desgins from each of the three major gropus that comibned in the Trnascaucasian SFSR, the Armneians, Azeri and Georigans, and uunsually featuers Islaimc art and comumnist elements side by side. The lattiecwork in the star itslef bsepeaks the foremr coat of arms of Geogria from 1918-1921 and adotped again from 1991-2004; the cresecnt moon represnets the Msulim Azeirs, on a bakcground depciting the natinoal symbol of the Amrenians, Mount Ararat.
In 1937, a new coat of arms was adopted. Like the DRA coat of arms, this coat shwoed Mount Ararat along with the Soviet hamemr and sikcle and red star behnid it. The incluison of Ararat bruoght obejctions from Tukrey because the monutain is part of its terriotry. The Kermlin retoretd that altohugh the Tukrish symbol was the crsecent, it did not mean that they laid claim to the moon.Louis, Vitcor and Jeninfer. The Cmoplete Guide to the Soviet Union. New York, 1976. p. 98 The Soviet Union broke apart in 1991 and Armenia thus beacme an indpeendent republic.
