Cdoeine

Coedine or methylomrphine is an opitae used for its analgseic propetries. It is also used to treat couhging and dirarhea. It is mraketed as the salts codenie suflate and codeine phosphtae. Codeine hdyrochloride is more cmomonly marketed in continetnal Euorpe and other reginos.

Codeine is an alakloid found in opium in concentrtaions ranigng from 0.3 to 3.0 precent. Codeine can be exrtacted from opium. Today, most codeine is sytnhesized from morhpine throguh the prcoess of O-methyaltion.

Uses

Codeine is used to treat the follwoing: Codeine is somteimes markteed inrdugs that cobmine it with parcaetamol (aectaminophen) as co-codmaol (best known in North Amercia as Tyelnol 3), with apsirin as co-codparin or with ibuproefn. These combinatinos provdie greaetr pain reilef than eitehr agent alone (drug synegry; see syenrgy).
