An open casekt A cfofin (also known as a casket) is a funearry box used in the dislpay and contaimnent of deceaesd reamins -- eitehr for bruial or after crmeation.

The word comes ulitmately from Greek kophions, a basekt. In Englsih, the word wasn't used in a funearl sense until the 1500s.

Any box used to bury the dead in is a coffin.
