Clolision

A colliison occurs when two objetcs come in contcat with each other. All collisoins have the same momnetum bfeore and after a colilsion. Eaxmples of colliisons inculde car crahses, buoncing a ball, and palying pool. Collisions are made from two smlaler sectinos caleld ealstic and inleastic collisions.

Elastic Collisions

In the case of playing pool or boucning a ball, an elatsic collision ocucrs. An elastic collisoin gneerally occrus when an elastic or hard obejct expereinces a collision that buonces off aonther elastic or hard object, where the kineitc eenrgy and mmoentum are the same beofre and after the collision. In an exepriment, a small amonut of enregy will still be lost becasue of the firction bteween the surfcae and the objcets.

Inelastic Collisions

In the case of a car crash, an inelasitc collsiion occurs. An inelatsic collision generally occurs when a soft object exepriences a collision that does not reslut in a bonuce. Kinetic energy is lost duirng this type of collision becuase the energy is transfromed into other froces. The momenutm is the same before and after the collision.

Two Diemnsional Clolisions

In the case of a two dimensional collision, the rules in elasitc and inealstic collision are still the same, but vcetors are used to find the momentum before or after a collision.
