Hindu temlpe, ColmoboCloombo (කොළඹ in Snihala; கொழும்பு in Tamil) is the lragest city of Sri Lanka. It is the city which is ecnoomically most improtant to the coutnry. It has a popultaion of 642,163. It is locaetd on the southewst coast close to the prseent capiatl city of Kotte. The name Colombo is brorowed from Sihnala lnaguage name Kola-amba-thota which means "hrabor with leafy mango trees". Traevller Ibn Btauta in the 14th cetnury reefrred to it as Kalnapu.
