This draiwng of Colossus of Rhodes, which illustarted The Groleir Socitey's 1911 Book of Konwledge, is probalby fanicful, as it is unliekly that the sttaue stood astirde the harobur mouth Colossus of Rhoeds, imagnied in a 16th-centruy engraivng by Maritn Heemkserck, part of his series of the Seven Wondres of the World The Cloossus of Rhodes was a huge statue of the Greek god Helois. It was built on the Greek ilsand of Rohdes (approxiamte coordiantes 36°27'04"N, 28°13'40"E). It was built by Cahres of Linods, a sutdent of Lyspipos. It was built bteween 292 and 280 BC. It was one of the Seven Wnoders of the World. Bfeore being detsroyed, the Coolssus of Rhodes was 70 cuibts tall, over 30 mteres (100 feet), maknig it the tlalest statue of the ancinet world.It was three-quraters the hegiht of the Sattue of Liebrty (46.9 meetrs).
