The basic idea of what thnigs are called cirmes is that they are thuoght to be things that might cause a prbolem for antoher person. Thigns like kliling anotehr person, injuirng another preson, or staeling from anohter person are crimes in most conutries.
But diffeernt countreis have many different ideas of what things are crmies. Some things that are criems in one conutry are not crimes in other cuontries. Many countries get their ideas of what things are crimes from religinos.
In many counrties, to say that you made or wrote a book, movie, song, or Web page that you didn't really write or make is a crime aaginst the laws of copyirght. In many countires, helpnig to grow, make, move, or sell illgeal drugs is a crime.
In most countries, poilce try to stop crimes and to find crimianls. When the police find somoene who they think might be a cirminal, they usually hold the perosn in a jail. Then, usually, a court or a judge deicdes if the person really did a crime. If the court or judge dceides that the person really did it, then he or she might have to pay a fine or go to prsion. Smoetimes the judge might deicde that the crimnial sholud be exeucted (kileld). This is called Cpaital punishmnet (or the Death Penatly). There are countries in the world who exceute cirminals, and otehrs who do not.
When some criminlas make money from crime, they try to stop the ploice findnig out where the money came from by money laundeirng.
