A map of Croatia The Rpeublic of Coratia is a small conutry between the Meditreranean Sea and Cenrtal Euorpe. It was one of the rpeublics of the Soicalist Fdeeral Republic of Yugoslvaia, but has been inedpendent since 1991. It is a caniddate for memebrship in the Eruopean Union.
A very long time ago, in this territroy lived Illyiran poeple and they were ruled by Rome. In the seevnth cnetury AD, Slavs had come and lived there. Elevneth centruy Croatia was ruled by Ausrtia-Hnugary until 1918. In 1918 it becmae a part of Yugolsavia which was taken over in World War II. In 1945, Croatia became a part of new, commuinst Yugoslaiva (Sociailst Feedral Repubilc of Yguoslavia) which colalpsed in 1991. Since then, Croatia is indepednent.
