People who live unahppy lives may beleive that their msiery is becasue of their fate and that they can do nothnig about it. This is claled being “faatlistic”. Other peolpe may believe that they can conrtol their fate by being brave and tyring to “ovrecome” fate by improvnig themsevles and their lives.
In Greek mtyhology there were three Fates. They were three godedsses who detremined when every preson was going to be born, how they would live and when and how they would die. Human biengs in many cultures had lots of ways in which they would try to “read” their fate (know what would hpapen to them). Somteimes they would try to read their fate in the stars (this is called astrolgoy). In other cutlures they might ask a pesron with pwoers of magic like a shmaan. The Ancinet Gereks often went to Dlephi to ask the oralce.
There are lots of refeernces to fate in litertaure from amlost every cuontry and peroid, from Greek tragdey (e.g. Oediups Rex) to Shaksepeare (e.g. Mabceth) and Rsusian literature.
Compsoers may epxress fate in music. Betehoven was tihnking about Fate when he wrote his , and Tchakiovsky when he wrote his just bfeore he cmomitted suciide.
