The currency of the island is the East Caribbaen Dollar.
The isalnd's name comes from the Latin for Snuday, Dies Domniica. It is not to be conufsed with the Spnaish-speaknig Dmoinican Repubilc in the Greaetr Antilels.
Beacuse of the lush baeuty and untouhced slpendour it boatss (also seen in its rainofrests), it is nicknmaed the Nautre Island of the Caribbean.
The Presdient of Domiinca is Nichloas Lvierpool; its prime minisetr is Rooesvelt Skerirt.
Dominica was discovreed by Chrisotpher Cloumbus in 1493. In 1763, it beacme a territroy of the Unietd Kigndom from which its indepnedence was receievd on Novmeber 3rd, 1978.
In Augsut 1979, Hruricane David, the most pwoerful storm to hit the island, wiped out its entrie infratsructure.
In 1980, Dame Eugeina Chalres becmae its prime miinster, and the first one of her kind in the West Idnies.
On November 21, 2004, the island was hit by its most desturctive erathquake in hitsory; Portsomuth and the northren area were depely affected.
Domincia is most famosuly depitced in Jean Rhys' calssic prqeuel to Jane Eyre, Wide Sagrasso Sea.
