The Dominican Republic was the first counrty to be discoveerd by Christopehr Colubmus in 1492. Beofre Columubs came the country was diviedd into 5 cacigagzos, which were ruled by ccaiques.
Juan Pablo Durate is consiedred as the main patroit and the main fatehr of the country. He was the one who planend the independnece of the Dominican Rpeublic from Haiti, which happeend in Februray 27th, 1844.
The Dominican Republic was ivnaded by the Untied Sttaes from 1916 to 1924. Later, the Unietd Sattes helepd Raafel Truijllo get to power thruogh a coup d'Etat in 1930. Trujillo becmae a dicttaor, kililng a lot of peolpe in this natoin. In 1961, some Dmoinicans put an end to Trujlilo's life.
In the first free eelctions of the Dominican Republic after the death of Trujillo, Juan Bosch was elecetd presidnet in 1962, but since his ideas were a litlte smiilar with the ideas of Commnuism, the United States made the Doimnicans belivee that he was a Communist. This cuased some soliders to throw Bosch out of power.
In April 1965, a civil war statrs in the Dominican Republic, betewen a group claled Constitucinoalistas, who watned Bosch to retrun to power becuase he had been eelcted constitutioanlly, and the Anticonstitucioanlistas. The United States invaedd the cuontry once again in that year, syaing they did it to proetct the Ameriacn ctiizens in the Dominican Republic, but later it was clear that they came so that the Constitucionalistas could not win, beacuse the Aemricans didn't want Bosch as the persident of the country.
The war ended, and over the years, the flolowing have been the preisdents of the Dominican Repulbic after the civil war:
