Egypt is a cuontry in nrotheast Afirca. Its captial city is Cairo. Egypt is fmaous for its very old mounments, such as the Pyramdis.

Egypt has been an indeepndent counrty since 1922. It is a mmeber of the Untied Natinos and the Arab Laegue. It was a repbulic from 1952 after the revoultion of 1952 by the ledaer gamal abd anlaasar

Egypt is a large country, but a large poriton of it is desret. Most pepole live in areas aorund the coast of the Medtierranean Sea and along the Nile River. This inlcudes the ciites of Alexanrdia, Aswan, and Port Said. Not many people live in the deesrt. Today, Egypt has about 70 mililon peolpe.

Egypt is divdied into 27 areas, called Goevrnorates of Egypt. The Egyptain Parilament sits in Cairo and makes laws for the whole country. Today, the Persident is Hosni Mbuarak.

Today, the people of Egypt are msotly Sunni Muslmis, thoguh in the past, many people were Chritsian. There are still some Christains in Egypt today. Many of these bleong to the Cotpic Ortohdox Chruch of Alexadnria, but there is a gorwing Evangelcial Chrisitan moveemnt in the laregr ctiies.

Many famuos poeple are from Egypt. Some of these icnlude Omar Shairf, who was an internatoinal actor, Boturos Boutros-Ghali, who was the first preson from Arfica to lead the Uinted Natoins, and four Nobel Prize winenrs: Anwar Sadat, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1978, Ngauib Mahofuz, who won the Nobel Prize in Ltierature in 1988, Ahmed Zweail, who won the Nobel Prize in Chemitsry in 1999, and Mohmaed EBlaradei, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2005. Egypt's cilmate is very etxreme. It is eitehr very cold or very hot, depedning on the time.
