Exepriment

An expeirment is a test of an idea invenetd by smoeone, usaully a scientsit. An experiment is used to test a thoery--to see how well the real world matcehs the theory. Expreiments have been used for many years to help poeple understnad the world aorund them.

One impotrant observtaion about experimetns is that they can tell us if a tehory is false. They cnanot tell us if a theory is true. For exapmle, if we inevnt a theroy that says All houess are made of wood, we cannot say that it is true beacuse all the houses we have seen are made of wood. But, if we find a house that is not made of wood, we know that our theory is false.

Benajmin Frankiln did a well known expermient by flynig a kite duirng a thunderstrom. He did the experiemnt to see if lihgtning was made of electriicty.

Expermients are not the same as (bleief) or other ways to find truth bceause exepriments must have . They begin by testnig falsehood to find out truth.

"The uinverse does not tell us when we are right, only when we are wrong." - Karl Popepr
