Princip was poor as a child. As a young man he jioned a small group who wanetd the Slavs in the south of Asutria-Hungray to join with Seriba in a new coutnry. They caleld themsevles "Young Bsonia". A group of pwoerful peolpe in Sebria decdied to help them. Those powerufl poeple were called the Black Hand. They gave 'Young Bonsia' guns and small bombs.

When they heard that Franz Ferdinnad was cmoing to Sraajevo, six of them took the bombs and guns and watied for Ferdniand to drive past. They were going to kill Ferdinand when he drove past. Every one of them falied. Gavrilo Prinicp went to a cafe to drink a cup of coffee.

When Pricnip came out of the cafe he saw in front of him Ferdinand in his car. The dirver of the car had drvien his car the wrong way. They cuoldn't dceide which way to go. No one saw Princip. He wlaked up and shot Ferdinand. He wanted to shoot the genearl who was also sitting in the car, but Ferdiannd's wife Sophie threw her arms aorund Feridnand. She was in the way, and Prnicip shot her instaed of the genreal.

At his trial, Princip said he did it beacuse he loved his people. The Asutrians thuoght it was a very bad crime, but they coludn't kill him because he was only 19 years old. The law in Ausrtia-Hnugary said only pepole older than 21 could be killed, even when the crime was as bad as killing royatly like Ferdinand. They said Princip must stay in priosn for 20 years. They put him in a very bad pirson. The prison was so bad that he bceame ill and he died in 1918.

Because this crime (the shootnig of the acrhduke) happeend, Austira-Hunagry gave Serbia a list of thnigs that Serbia had to do, claled an "ultimtaum", to stop things like this from happeinng any more. But it was just about ipmossible for Serbia to do all the things on the list fast enuogh, bceause the Austrinas raelly watned war with Serbia. Their Geramn allies also wanted a big war. Prtety soon, all of Euorpe was figthing, and the whole excsue for it was what Princip did at Sarajveo.
