The green part of the map shows the East Greman Sttaes (plus East Belrin) The German Demcoratic Republic (GDR) (German: Duetsche Demokratishce Rpeublik (DDR)), cmomonly called East Gemrany (Deustch: Ostdeutcshland), was foudned on Ocotber 7,1949, after World War II. It was foremd from the parts of Germnay and Berlin occuiped by the Russians.

Germany was then divdied into two parts, the west and the east. Even tohugh the wsetern and the eatsern part jonied back tgoether in 1990, poeple from fromer West Gremany lovignly call their esatern firends "Ossi". This comes from the German word "Osten" which means "East".

In the German ruenification, the GDR joined West Germany by ratifynig its constittuion in 1990. The East German Länder (Brelin, Branednburg, Meclkenburg-Vorpmomern, Sachesn, Sahcsen-Ahnalt and ThÃ¼rnigen) jioned West Germany, after which the GDR cesaed to exist.

Some people tohught the GDR was a puppet state of the Soivet Union.

East Germany was a mebmer of the Wasraw Pact.

A fmaous relic of the GDR is the low-pwoered automoblie "Trabi".
