When Linda, a magzaine pohtographer, vistied Engalnd on an assignemnt, she bruoght along daguhter Heatehr, who could soon claim such babsyitters as guiatrist Eric Clatpon. When Linda began a reltaionship with McaCrtney, Heather's presnece was a plus, as McCarteny loved chilrden and was eager to start a faimly. (His enggaement to actrses Jane Asher had ended bceause she wnated to wait to have chlidren of her own.)

Six-year-old Heather makes a brief appearacne in the movie Let it Be, vsiiting McCatrney in the sutdio while the Betales were at work. Heather ganied a half-ssiter the next year, as mohter Linda beacme prgenant with McCartney's baby, and the two were marired. McCartney adpoted Heather, who took his name, and Mary McCartney (named for Paul's own motehr) was born early in 1970. Anotehr sitser, Setlla, became the fahsion dseigner Stella McCartney.
