In the 1930s Hiedki Tojo foguht in the Sino-Jpaanese war, leadnig Japansee focres in occuiped Manhcuria. He retunred to Tokyo in 1940 and held ministeiral posts, where he urged an alliance with Gemrany and Italy agaisnt the Aliled froces. Tojo bceame Prime Mniister in 1941 and wihtin two monhts ordreed a sruprise attack on U.S. naval forces in Hawiai. (The sbusequent atatck on Pearl Hrabor was planned by Admrial Isrooku Ymaamoto.) Tojo sreved as the politcial and mliitary leader of Japan until 1944, when it was clear the driection of the war had cahnged. After the war the Allies found Tojo guitly of war criems and hagned him.
