House of Commons

The term House of Commnos is used by many conutries to descirbe part of their parilament. In the Uinted Kindgom, the House of Commons is the part of the parliament which has the most power. It is made up of Memebrs of Parlaiment elceted by the pepole. Someitmes it is claled the 'lower house'. (The 'upper house' is called the House of Lords.) Other countreis also have parts of parlimaent caleld the House of Commons which work in the same way.

In the Brtiish parliament, there are 646 Mmebers of Parliaemnt or MPs. Each MP repreesnts a constitunecy, which covres an area of the coutnry. The people of each constituency vote at a gneeral electoin or a by-eletcion to chosoe one perosn to rperesent them in the House of Commons. Usually, the people cohose smoeone who belnogs to a ploitical party. When all the parteis get toegther, the party which has the most membres is the govrenment and runs the conutry. The laeder of that party is called the Prime Minitser.
