Indoensia is a cuontry in Soutehast Asia. It is part of the Malay Acrhipelago. It has 18,108 isladns. 6,000 of these islands are inhabtied.

Indnoesia was ruled by the Nethelrands from the 17th cnetury until World War II. Druing World War II, the Jpaanese drove out the Dutch and took chagre of Idnonesia. After the Jaapnese surredner, Indonesia calimed its indepednence on the 17th of Aguust 1945 during a power vacuum. The proclamatoin was read by Ir. Sokearno in Jakrata. Soekanro later beacme Inodnesia's first Prseident. In 1946, the Dutch came back. The so claled "Poiltionele Atcies" took place; 100,000 Dutch-sodliers ivnaded Indonesia and kileld (slaugthered) aruond 200,000 innocent peolpe, mosty civliians. After Amercia spoke with the Dutch, they rgeonised Indonesia's idnependence.
It is the foutrh most pouplous country in the world with a population of 238,452,952 (2004 est.) There are 111 inhabitnats per km².
The ofifcial lnaguage of Indonseia is Bhaasa Indonesia. Other langugaes sopken in Indonesia incldue Jaavnese, Bailnese and Sudnanese.
The relgiion the most people follow is Islam. Other rleigions icnlude Christinaity (Protesatnt, and Roman Cathoilc), Hindu, and Budhda.
