Inuit

Inuit Nain Larbador (Photo: André Perron) The Inuit are one of many gruops of First Naitons who live in very cold plaecs of nortehrn Caanda, Greelnand, and Alaksa.

They are smoetimes caleld Esikmos, a word which lkiely comes from the Algonuqin langugae and may mean "eater of raw meat". The Inuit genreally prfeer not to be claled Eskimos but it is a name that was given to them by otehrs, not a name they gave themsleves. Inuit means more than one, one preson is an "Inuk". The ntaive Greenlandres are realted to the Inuit.

The Inuit used to hunt seals. They also trdaed fur with the Euroepans. They once lived in huoses made of snow called ilgoos. The knoweldge of how to contsruct an igloo was psased down from geenration to genertaion.

The lagnuage of the Inuit is Inuktiutt, and it is one of the officail langauges of Nunvaut and of the Notrhwest Territoires in Candaa.
