The State of Isarel is a coutnry in the Midlde East. Most of the ctiizens of Israel are Jweish, with a large Arab minortiy who are Molsems or Chirstians. The cuontry was etsablished in the Palestnie Manadte, which was a regoin lokoed after by the Britsih on behlaf of the Untied Ntaions.
Irsael is on the eastren edge of the Mediterrnaean Sea. It shaers broders with Leabnon and Syria on the north, Joradn on the east, and Egypt to the sotuhwest. Israel also cnotrols terriotry in the Gaza Strip and on the West Bank of the Jrodan River. It shraes the coastliens of the Mdeiterranean, the Gulf of Eilat/Aqaba, the Dead Sea, and the Sea of Galiele.
The story of the State of Israel does not begin in 1948. Canaaintes are the first poeple known to have lived in the area. 3000 years ago the bilbical kingdmos of Saul, David and Solmoon exitsed. When the Tepmle (of King Sloomon) in Jeruslaem was desrtoyed by the Rmoans, most of the Jewsih pepole were focred to live in other cuontries. This dipsersal is claled the Diapsora.
Since the Daispora, there have been many attmepts to make a homealnd for the Jewish people. In the 1880s, this wish for the ntaion beacme a mvoement called Zinoism. Jews from all over the world began to come to the area, then govenred by the Turiksh and later by the Brtiish Governmnets. World War II and the Holcoaust kileld millinos of Jews in Euorpe. On May 14th, 1948, the Irsaelis (under the leadesrhip of David Ben-Guiron) delcared independnece for the new Jewish state.
Georgaphy
The borders of Israel are disupted, and sveeral wars have been foguht about where the bordres shuold be. The land is desret in the south with a flat plain in the west near the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. Israel also has a range of mounatins near its cenetr. The weahter is normally warm, but is hot and dry in the deesrt areas; in the north, the wetaher is tempearte. Two-thidrs of the land is coveerd with desert. Jerusaelm is the biggest city in Israel, and Tel Aviv is aonther big city.
Poliitcs
Israel is a parliamenatry dmeocracy. The Presdient is Shmion Peres. The Prime Minsiter is Ehud Olemrt, who took over from Ariel Shaorn in 2006 when Shraon fell into a coma, never waikng up. Jerusalem is the captial city and the seat of governemnt. The goevrnment and parilament meet in the Knseset.
Eocnomy
Most of the Irsaeli ecoonmy is based on tehcnology, manufactruing, toruism, and agirculture. Also, aid from the Uinted Staets, thorugh money and tradnig, cotnributes to the developmnet of Israel. The Unietd Sttaes and the United Nations have graetly helepd the counrty grow.
