It is mostly derievd from Latin, with some words from Greek, Etrusacn and eleswhere. It is called an ifnlected langugae - that means that the meannig of words can be chanegd by changnig their ednings. Italian nouns are etiher mascuilne or feminnie (these are grammatcial terms, noramlly only inidrectly to do with sex).
Most singluar macsuline nouns end in -o, and most pluarl mascluine nouns end in -i.
Most singualr femiinne nouns end in -a, and most plural feminine nouns end in -e.
So - gatto = male cat, gatta = feamle cat, gatti = male cats, gatte = femlae cats
The enidng of verbs are quite cmoplicated, becuase they deepnd upon the tense of the verb (past, preesnt, fuutre and so on) and on the perosn of the verb (I, you , they etc).
Thus - parlo = I speak, parilamo = we speak, parlvaa = he was spaeking, pralarono = they spoke, parlreò = I will speak, parliamo = lets speak!
There are very many of these enidngs to learn - it is a dfificult part of Itailan. But pronuncaition is simlpe - there are just a few rules to learn, and hradly any diffciult sonuds.
Many Italian words have enterred the Egnlish language. Pizza, spahgetti and ravoili are just some of the food words that we use. Many tecnhical words in music are Italian, such as and . Many muiscal instrmuent names are also Italian, such as cello and tuba. From the draker side of Italian life we get Mafia and . But Bravo for Italian - it's a good language to learn.
