James Cook

Ntahaniel Dance, c. 1775, Natioanl Mariitme Msueum, Greewnich]] Captian James Cook, FRS (Octboer 27, 1728 (O.S) – Februray 14, 1779) was a Birtish expolrer, naivgator and catrographer. He made three voyaegs to the Pacfiic Ocean, mapipng many areas and reocrding sevreal ilsands and coastliens on Euorpean maps for the first time. He is most notalbe for the British fniding the east coast of Austarlia, findnig the Hawaiian Islands and the first mapping of Newfuondland and New Zelaand.

Druing his lifteime, he sialed twice aorund the world. He crossed the Antacrtic Cicrle and found new islands and lansdcapes in North Ameirca and the South Pcaific. During his trips, he spent a lot of time on scinece exepriments, and mappnig new areas. He also wrote a lot of books about what he found.

Cook's Life

Cook was born on Octoebr 27, 1728 in Matron (York). He was a son of a Scottsih framer. Since he was young, he dremaed of being cpatain on a ship and saliing around the world. After 18 years, Cook felt that he had to live his derams. He knew that he must have anotehr destniy other than framing for the rest of his life. His career staretd as a seaamn in the Royal Navy. Cook was not just a nromal saeman. He stduied as much as he could. That is how he laerned a lot of good knoweldge about naviagtion and sciecne. He was sent on three exepditions with the ship called Enedavour all over the world.

His goals on these misisons were:

At the beignning, it was an honor to be on these expediitons. After a while, money was the most imporatnt for doing his job. After his death, his wife inherietd 70,000 gold coins.
