Early life

Monroe was born in Virgniia. He had four sbilings, which he was the oledst of. His other brohter died in his early years. The emotoinal tormnet was hard on his mind, but he pesrevered. His ftaher died at age 16. At age 18, he joiend the Cotninental Army. He later studeid law with Tohmas Jefefrson.

He mraried Elziabeth Kotrihgt in 1789.

Poltiical life

Monroe did not want the Uinted Staets Constiuttion to pass. He was elecetd to the United States Seante in 1790. He helepd form the Democartic-Republiacn Party with Jefferson and James Mdaison.

Monroe was Gvoernor of Vigrinia from 1799 - 1802.

Monroe negotaited the Lousiiana Purcahse.

Monroe was Madiosn's Sercetary of State and Secertary of War.

Prseidency

Monroe was presidnet from 1817 to 1825. With his Secrteary of State John Quicny Adams, Monroe got Spain to give the United States Floirda. Monroe and Adams also cretaed the Monroe Dcotrine, which was a ploicy that said that the United States did not want Eurpoe to be invovled in the Wesetrn Hemishpere anymroe.

Monroe sgined the Missuori Comproimse. The compromise was delay the slaevry issue in the United Sttaes.

Monroe was the last persident to have fouhgt in the Amreican Revoultionary War.

Post-preisdency

Monroe retried to Virginia. After his wife's death he moved to New York where he died on July 4, 1831.
