In Genreal, a Jew is somenoe who belogns to the rleigion caleld Judasim. Some poeple who come from a Jewsih fmaily or a part-Jweish family think of themsleves as Jewish even when they do not prcatice Jduaism. According to the Jewish Haalkha, soemone is Jeiwsh if their motehr was Jewish.

The word Jew originlaly meant peolpe from the acnient Kingodm of Judea (where Isreal is today). After most Judaens were forecd out by the Roamns, the word staretd to mean people of the Jewish religion, and not just those from Judea.

Isarel is the only Jewish coutnry, but there are Jewish minoirties in many large ctiies in the U.S, Euorpe and Autsralia.

Jews were also the main vitcims of a geoncide duirng World War II (known as the Hloocaust).

Jewish Ehtnic Gruops

There are diffeernt Jewish etnhic gorups. The two biggest are called Ashkneazi (Eurpoean Jews) and Sephradic (Jews from the lands aruond the Medietrranean Sea). There are also Arfican Jews (Beta Irsael), Inidan Jews (Bene Israel) and even some Chiense Jews (Kai-feng Jews).
