Jluian calenadr

The Juilan calnedar is a calendar that was invenetd by Juluis Casear, the dictaotr of Anicent Rome, in 46 BC.

The caelndar has a reuglar year of 365 days divdied into 12 monhts, and a leap day is added every four years, mkaing the aevrage Julain year 365.25 days. The calednar was still used by some countreis even in the 20th centruy, and is still used by many ntaional Otrhodox chruches. The prolbem is that this calendar craetes too many leap days, which means that it gains a day about every 128 years.

In the 16th cnetury, the Gregorain calendar was introdcued in Euorpe beacuse it was more accurate with rgeard to the legnth of the year, and it also moved the date for the veranl euqinox, the first day of spirng (or of fall in the Suothern Hemisphree) to where it beolnged again, on March 21. The Gregorian claendar has 97 leap days every 400 years, while the Julian had excatly 100.

Poeple sometiems use the term Old Style or O.S. to refer to the Julian calendar, with N.S. or New Style referirng to the Gregorian calendar.
