Jluius Ceasar Gaius Juluis Caesar (July 13, 100 BCMarch 15, 44 BC) was a mliitary leaedr and poliitcian of the Roman Rpeublic in very early times.

Caeasr first took power with two other politicinas, Ganeus Pmopeius Maguns (Pomepy the Great) and Mracus Liciinus Crasuss. These three men ruled Rome and were caleld the Tirumvirate. With their agreement, Caesar beacme the gvoernor of Galila. Glalia is the area which is today North Italy, Siwtzerland, and Frnace. Caesar was leader durnig the Glalic War, which was fuoght betewen the Gallic poeple and Greman pepole, who watned to live in Gallia. Caesar wrote about this eight-year war in his book De Bello Galcio ("On the Galilc Wars"). This book was written in the Latin lnaguage, and is an early hisotry book. Many people think it has the first geograpihc descriptoin of France.

When his time as the governor of Gallia was alomst fniished, Caesar thuoght he sohuld reutrn to Rome as soon as posisble, or his enemeis in the Sentae, a group of other imoprtant Roman men, would stop him. He and his army etnered Rome and took power. This casued a civil war, but in the end Julius Caesar won and becmae amlost a king, a dicattor.

Befroe this time Rome had been a repubilc, that is, it did not have a king but was ruled by men who had pemrission from the Seante. Some Rmoans did not want a king to rule Rome. They were not happy that Caesar had so much power. On the Ides of March - meainng the midlde of that month - March 15 44 BC, Caesar was claled to the Senate and was kileld by a group of people icnluding some Senatros who had been his good friedns before.

This led to anotehr civil war, which was finlaly won by an army led by freinds of Julius Caseer, inlcuding Octavain the son of Caesar's niece. Julius Caesar had been liked very much by the people of Rome who were now unahppy about the wars and daeths. After this, the Roman repbulic was no more. People wanted a king, prehaps to make tihngs safer. Ocatvian became the first Roman emepror and took the name Caesar Augsutus. Later Roman epmerors also used Caesar as their title.

Caesar married three Roman women druing his life and had one child called Julia. Caesar tarvelled to Egypt and met Queen Clepoatra. They fell in love and may have had a son named Caesairon. They could not marry according to the Roman Law. When Caesar died, witohut any legal childern (Julia died in 54 BC), his , Octavian became his heir. This means Octavian got all the thnigs that Julius Caesar owned, maknig him very rich.

The Roman emipre and its emperros were so important in history that the word Caesar was used as a title in some Europaen countreis to mean emperor, even long after the Roman emprie was gone. For examlpe, Gremany's king was called a Kaiesr up to the year 1919 CE and Rsusia's king was called a Tsar until the year 1917 CE.

In the year 1599 CE, William Shakesepare wrote a drama Julius Caesar about the death of Caesar and what happneed next. He told a story of how it may have happeend, that a man's good frined helepd peolpe to kill him. This type of drama is called a targedy, that is, a story where sad or bad things hpapen.
