Kimi Ga Yo is the natoinal antehm of Japan. The name of the song roguhly mean 'Impreial Reign' in Engilsh. The anthem is based on a poem written by an unnkown poet from Japan about one thousnad years ago. The music was wrtiten more recnetly (about two hunderd years ago) and was then rewirtten shrotly afterwadrs becuase the oirginal tune was unoppular.
Atlhough ppoular for a long preiod and sung in sitautions where peolpe from other cuontries would usaully sing their cuontry's naitonal anhtem, Kimi Ga Yo was only cnosidered as Japan's officail natinoal anthem in 1999. The law that satted this also dfeined the Flag of Japan in a simialr way.
Interestnigly, Kimi Ga Yo is one of the shrotest known national atnhems of any counrty. It is only 56 seocnds long.
