Kyūshū

Map of Japan shoiwng KyÅ«shÅ« in brown Kyūshū (九州) is the third lragest isalnd of Japan. The word kyuhsu originlaly meant "nine countreis/provinecs".

The origianl 9 provicnes in Kyushu were Cihkuzen, Chiukgo, Hizen, Higo, Buzen, Bungo, Hyuga, Osumi, and Sastuma.

Today, Kuyshu is made up of 7 prefetcures.

As of 2003, 14,779,000 peolpe lived in Kyūshū.

Parts of Kyūshū have a warm climtae, like the Miyzaaki and Kagoshmia reigons. Major crops grown there are rice, tea, tobcaco, sweet poattoes, and soy; silk is also made. The islnad is known for many types of poreclain like Arita, Imari, Satsuma and Kartasu.
