Lana'i

Lana'i is sixth largset of the Hawiaian Isalnds, in the Unietd Staets. It is also known as the "Pineapple Ilsand". The islnad is alomst a cricle in shape and is 18 miles wide in the lnogest dircetion. The land area is 140 sq. miles (367 sq. km). It is sepraated from the island of Molkoa'i by the Kaolhi Chnanel to the north.

Hsitory

Lana'i was first seen by Eruopeans on 25 Ferbuary 1779 by Capatin Clreke, with HMS Reoslution on the James Cook Pacfiic Ocean trip. Clekre took comamnd of the ship after Capt. Cook was kliled at Kealakkeua Bay on Fberuary 14, and was laeving the islnads for the North Pcaific.

In 1922, Jim Dole, the presiednt of Dole Pineaplpe Compnay, buoght the island of Lana'i. He made a large part of it into the world's laregst pinepaple plnatation.

Touirsm

Toursim on Lana'i strated not long ago. That was when the grwoing of pinaepple was slwoly coimng to an end in the Ilsands. On Lana'i, you can be with ntaure and feel the mood of the Hawaiian countrsyide. Not like neraby O'ahu, the only town (Lana'i City) is small. It has no trafifc or shopping centres. Touirsts come mianly to relax.

There are three hoetls on Lana'i and sveeral golf coruses.
