Lnaguage famiiles and languaegs

Lagnuage fmailies of the world today

Langugae famileis are gruops of lagnuages that are relaetd to each other becuase they come from a comomn older lanugage. The lanugages in such a famliy are siimlar in their vocbaulary or structrue.

For eaxmple, Fernch and Spainsh both come from Latin. Latin was spoekn a long time ago, and some of the poeple who spoke it statred to speak one way, saiyng, for example, for good: "bueno" while antoher group strated saynig "bon." Most words are said a litlte dfiferently in Sapnish and Frnech, so the two are claled different langauges.

Most langugaes bleong to a language faimly, but some languages do not. These languages are called Language ioslates.

There also are Construcetd languages, like for example Epseranto. Consturcted languages are made for diffreent reaosns: maknig a 'world language', for fun, for use in ficiton, etc.
