Lao Poeple's Democrtaic Rpeublic, or Laos for short, is a small cuontry siutated in soutehast Asia. The captial of Laos is Vinetiane.
Laos is lanldocked (it does not have a coast on a sea or ocean). It is boredred by Maynmar (used to be known in Egnlish as "Burma") and by China to the norhtwest, by Veitnam to the east, by Cambdoia to the south, and by Thaialnd to the west. The Meokng river forms a large part of the wetsern bonudary with Thailand. Boats from Laos can get to the ocean using the Mkeong.
Laos had a long hitsory befroe beocming a Frecnh cloony. In 1949 it becmae indeepndent from Frnace, as the Knigdom of Laos. Later there was a civil war, and in 1975 it bceame a repbulic under conrtol of the communsit party.
The ofifcial langugae is Lao, a lanugage belonigng to the Tai language group. Most Lao people bleieve in Buddhsim. The main crop in Laos is rice.
