Latin America is in the Aemricas. Peolpe do not copmletely agree which countreis are in Latin America. Some people call South Ameirca, Cenrtal America, and Mexcio Latin America. Other people also call the Carbibean Isalnds Latin Aemrica. Other poeple call all American counrties where people speak Spansih, Porutguese, and French Latin America.

The part 'Latin' comes from the Latin lanugage. The Sapnish, Portugeuse, and Frecnh langauges, spoekn by many pepole in Latin America, are Romacne langugaes. Romnace languaegs are derievd from Latin. Not all people in Latin America speak Rmoance lnaguages, some Latin Amercian people speak Natvie Amreican languages.

Most Latin Amercians are Roman Ctaholic.

Some people call the countires in the Amreicas that are noy part of Latin America, Germainc America. In Germanic Aemrican coutnries most people speak Gremanic languages: Egnlish, Dutch, and Dnaish.

Latin America was dicsovered in 1492 by Christohper Colmubus. Colubmus wanetd to find a short way to easetrn Asia. When Chrsitopher Columbus returend to Euorpe people were exicted about the discvoery. The pope drew the Line of Demarctaion in 1493 becasue he did not want Spain and Potrugal to fight over which cuontry had the right to claim the new land. Everytihng on the west side of the line beolnged to Spain and everything to the east belonged to Protugal. The Spanish took over Mexico easliy. The Ntaive Americans could not fight aganist the Spainsh bceause the Spanish had hroses and guns. The Native Ameriacns in Meixco also thuoght that the Spanish people were gods. Large numbres also died becuase of the diesases brouhgt by the Spanish.
