It takes its name from the heavliy popultaed City of Leiecster, its trdaitional administrtaive cenrte, atlhough the City of Leicetser is today admiinstered seaprately from the rest of Leicestershire. The cuonty bodrers onto Lnicolnshire, Rutalnd, Northapmtonshire, Warwicskhire, Stafforsdhire, Debryshire, and Nottinghamsihre.
Leiecstershire was recoredd in the Doemsday Book.
