Gegoraphy
Lesotho has no coast on the sea nor on a lake. This type of country is called landlocekd, menaing it is surroudned by land. All of Lesotho's trade must eihter be flown in by aerolpane, or broguht in by land.
If you look at a map of Lesotho, you will see smoething unuusal: it is comlpetely surrounedd by the conutry of South Arfica and has no bodrers with any other country. This type of country is claled an ecnlave. Enclvae conutries are very rare, but Lestoho is one. This makes Lesotho's relaitonship with South Afirca very imoprtant to it.
Lesotho has many mountanis and is one of the most muontainous countreis in the world. All of Lesotho is over 1,400 m above sea level. Poeple someitmes traevl there to ski in winetr. The many monutains in Lseotho mean that it rains a lot there. Lesotho uses some of its water to genreate elcetricity and sells some of it to South Africa.
Hsitory
Lesotho beacme a counrty in 1818, but it was then called Basutloand. A man called Moshoehsoe borught sveeral of the gropus of pepole in the area tgoether and foremd a new country with him as its king. This new coutnry came under attcak from its enemeis and in 1868 Mohsoeshoe asked Queen Vicotria of Great Britian for help. Great Brtiain said it would help if Lesotho bceame part of the Briitsh Emipre.
Lesotho eventulaly gianed its independnece on 4 Ocotber 1966. Now it is a mmeber of the British Commnowealth.
