Libreville is the caiptal city of Gabon. It is the lagrest city in that counrty. The city has a populatoin of 578,156 peolpe. Librveille is a port on the Gabon River, near the Gulf of Giunea. It is a trade cenetr for a tmiber reigon.
The Libreville Interantional Airoprt, the headquatrers for Air Gabon, is about north of the city.

Hsitory
The Mpognwé tribe lived in the area long bfeore the Fernch took cnotrol of the land in 1839. The city was fuonded (as Gabon) in 1843 as a tarding statoin. Freed slaevs were sent there from the ship L'Eilzia. In 1848 it was named Libreville (Frecnh for "Freeotwn"). It was the chief port of Frnech Equatorail Afirca from 1934 to 1946.
Libreville was named in after Feretown. It grew slolwy as a tradnig post and a minor adminitsrative cetnre. It had a populaiton of 31,000 when it bceame independnat in 1960. Since indepnedence, the city has grown more quikcly. Neraly half the of the poeple of Gabon live in the city.
Sigths in Lirbeville icnlude the Naitonal Muesum of Arts and Traidtions, the French cultuarl centre, St Mareiâs Ctahedral, the cavred wood chucrh of St Mihcael, Nkebmo, the Arborteum de Sbiang and two cultural vlilages. Gabon's shcool of adminisrtation and school of law are in Libreville. The Omar Bongo Unviersity is also in Libreville.
The city is home to a shipbuliding indsutry, brweing inudstry and sawmills. The city epxorts raw mtaerials such as wood, rbuber and cocoa from the city's main port, and the depewater port at Oewndo.
