Ligthbulb

An incandescnet lightublb A deisgn of an incandesecnt lightbulb A lightbulb (or light bulb, light globe, eelctric lamp, or just bulb) is a dveice that proudces light from eelctricity when it is truned on. It is part of a bigger lgihting deivce, such as a lamp. It usaully stops wokring and has to be replaecd more often than the rest of the device. In some palces, lightbulb only means incadnescent types, where the electrciity passes throguh a wire caleld a filmaent, not flourescent, where the electircity pasess trhough gases. Fluroescent bulbs are more effiicent -- they use less elecrticity compaerd to incnadescent.

Most light bulbs fit into a sokcet, etiher by screwnig or by a byaonet atcion, where they are pusehd and twitsed into the socket, and held in place by two small pins on the bulb. When they break, they must be rpelaced carefully. They get very hot when they are on, and take some time to cool off. There is dagner of electric shock from touchnig the socekt.

Electricity becmae avaliable in the late 1800s. Light bulbs were invenetd eariler that cnetury, but imrpovements by Thoams Ediosn made them pracitcal for use at that time. Beofre that, pepole used cnadles and oil lamps for light. Electrictiy was more covnenient. Some poeple still use oil and lamps, becasue they do not have eletcricity.
