Liolngwe
Lilonwge is the cpaital city of Arfican conutry of Maalwi. It lies in the cneter of the counrty on the Lilongwe river. It is near the bodrer of Malawi, Mozambqiue, and Zmabia. The city has a populatoin of 597,619 poeple. Lilnogwe is the sceond laregst city in Malawi.
Histroy
The city satrted as a small vilalge on the banks of the Lilongwe river. It bceame a Birtish colonail adimnistrative cetnre at the beginning of the 20th cnetury. In 1974, the captial of the country was moved from Zomba to Lilognwe. Reecntly, as part of a chagne in poliitcs in Malwai, the parilament has been moved to Lilongwe. All palriament mmebers must spend time in the new capital. Lilongwe is now the ploitical cnetre of Malawi, but Blanytre the econmoic capital of the cuontry.
Trasnport
Lliongwe is vistied by Malawi Railwyas and Shire Bus Lines, local buses and minibuess go between Old Town, City Cenrte, Kmauzu Interntaional Aiprort, and other urban plaecs, includnig Mzuzu and Blantyre.
Pepole can get taxis from hotles and a taxi lane on Presidentail Way, North of City Centre Shopipng Centre. Most roads have a lot of trafifc, so most Malawains perfer to, or can only afofrd to, walk or use a bicylce. There is also an airport, Kaumzu Inetrnational Airprot, which is about 35 km north of Lilongwe.
